Subject: Re:
anastasia: I have several browsers installed and they all have good & bad points, though overall i would recommend Firefox for Safety, Speed & Versatility

Safari is great for speed though on most sites (including here)

Can i just ask why you prefer IE ?

If it is just the way it looks, Firefox has an Add-on that makes it look like IE, though this is mainly for web page developers so they can see how pages look in IE when they are designing them in Firefox, but i guess you could leave it permanently as IE.

There is Seamonkey (by Mozilla as well) which is the all-in-one application formerly known as the "Mozilla Application Suite", containing a web browser, a mail and newsgroups client, an HTML editor, web development tools, and an IRC chat client.

So i would say stick to Firefox or Safari, they are both far superior for surfing. (if you need any help on FF and customizing it just shout)

Chrome (by Google) is shaping up to be a good browser, though it is in early days yet

For Mac users there is Camino (by Mozilla), though i have not tried that.

Funny thing happened to me yesterday actually, my boss deleted FF off the work PC, so now i have to use IE when i am there, and HECK do i hate it

Fencer(or anyone who knows)

This game has finished Backgammon (Resher vs. MadMonkey)

And so has the Tournament Madhouse February 2008

Though all information at the bottom of the game is missing and so is all the game info in the Tournament

We both got blank messages sent to us when it ended (nothing about bkr,or who won etc).

Anyone any idea ??

Bernice: I have used Safari before, and still have it on here

I have just been comparing them in fact, and Safari is faster at loading games pages, but very little to choose any any other pages i tried.

Apart from the speed reason, like coan.net and others, i love the huge amount of Add-ons available for Firefox. I have everything i need all on one page from resizing text areas to all my email

The only reason i can think off the top of my head that people find Firefox slow is they do not have enough memory for it. It has always been notorious for eating memory up, though the new version is not meant to be as bad as previous one.

I have 30 Add-ons(though only 27 running at the moment), i have no speed problem, so i will be sticking with it

The last few days i have been having problem now, so when i can not access BrainKing, but can everywhere else, i ho there and run the test

I done these about 30 minutes ago:

I have had numerous messages asking me, but have not been here much last couple of days so could not comment.
Been here 30 mins now and spent 20 of them watching the 'waiting for brainking.com' message on my task bar
I know there is a problem as when i get back my friends on line list is empty just about, for a few more mins while people try and get back (in fact Who is online list is almost empty as well)

I would like to find out if there are any players (Members or one trying to join) who can not because they do not use PayPal or MoneyBookers.(or any other method they cant use lol)

I have at least 2 players who want to, but can not, and apparently they know of others (but i can not comment on that).

Should this not be looked into ??

Surely the only ones losing out are Fencer & Liquid, and therefore BrainKing

I get numerous people telling me reason they do not join, and even some from IYT why they will not play here. I posted a Feature Request about that (a simple colour choice of pieces), and nothing happened so again BrainKing loses out.

Should we not try to build this great site up ?????

Maybe coan.net or Tanein can create a Poll of ways best to pay, just a thought

rednaz23: Some useful ideas Phil

Number 6 is always useful in Polls. I have had a little play to see how the system works and seems fine

Only things i may add to the list are:
7. Could the Poll be left open, so new members of a Fellowship can vote. I can take the results of my Poll of BrainKing games for our next PRIZE Tournament at any time then, and then leave it open to see how new members effect it (guess i could set it for its maximum). Maybe a Close button to 'Close the Poll NOW'
8. An addition to umber (4) on your list. When choosing more than one option, can it be possible to set a maximum number of selections if we wish please (i.e. the favourite 5 games here)

Think that's all i have.
Thanks Fencer for introducing it, it will be a very useful tool

Roberto Silva: Yes, that is why Byes are often seeded in Tournaments, the higher rated seed normally go through

As in football, the Top Teams normally do not have to qualify, Golf, the Masters, Top seeds do not have to qualify, it is common place in the world of Sport Competitions.

On BrainKing i do not think seeding (even done by BKR) is fair though, and it probably would have to be just Random, but at least EVERYONE gets to play.

Anyway, if i dont make it a Private Tournament, i will give up on the idea & will award the Prizes elsewhere. People here are all to happy to look backwards, not forwards

Its such a shame, i have just been asked by someone that if they get a life membership, could we use the 10,000 BKR points as Prizes and Memberships.

Well, we know the answer to that now....do not bother

Subject: Re:
rabbitoid: Yes, a good idea OR set it for 128, and if we do not get enough start a 64 one, a 32 one, a 16 one, a 8 one one etc..etc.. until all the players were used up. Then all them winners could play each other in a Final Elimination (which would be the same as having Byes, but a lot more work).

Either way the code would still have to be written, and if doing that why not do a proper job and write a couple of lines of code so that everyone could play, everyone would be happy (well, the BrainKing players would)

Its a system that is used world wide in nearly all sporting Tournaments.

Question: Does someone hold something together with a piece of tape, or use a nut & bolt and do it right (well , i know what i mean)

I know i put forward a lot of Feature Requests, but thinking about it, most the things would of been found out given a proper testing period before releasing to the site & therefore would not have to be mentioned and looked at is if it was just nit picking

Subject: Re:
Fencer: Something from you I would be supplying the Prize

If you mean, using Byes, i am surprised it was not introduced when you brought in Elimination Tournaments as they are part of it.

There is certainly no point in trying to create a large one on BrainKing, as once you get to one milestone, say 65 players, you then need to find another 63 or you get to 127 and can not find one more to get your 128, the Tournament can not start and will be deleted.

Having Byes would at least let those who enter play.

I do not call that wanting, i call it common sense, letting those who want to play.......PLAY

Fencer, have you had chance working on using in Byes in Elimination Tournaments that do not get the required amount of players yet ?

Once the current Madhouse PRIZE Tournaments starts, i want to release another PRIZE one.

This time though i would like to do an Elimination one using between 10 and 20(who knows) BrainKing games, and those who take part MUST play in every game.
I will give points to how far a Player gets in each one, then total them up, and the Winner will be the one with the most points overall. In the event of a draw, i will set another Private Tournament up for those involved.

If we had Byes, then no one would have to miss out. Of course i could just say first come first served, but would like for everyone to have a chance
