I feel it would be helpful if the messages were ordered with the most recent one(s) appearing at the top of the list, instead of at the bottom, as currently done. Thank you for a nice site.

Fencer,
I want to say I love this game site and I'm planning on staying forever :) I just want to see if it would be nice to have a new game of 4-sided Chess with 4 players--one on each end of the board. I never played it before, but I seen the board of it and I don't know what's it called. I would be very glad if you do add it to this game to brainking.com :) Thank you for your time and have a Happy New Year!!

would it be a 10 x 10 board to allow for what would be overlapping squares? That would be an interesting game!

Is there anyway you could possibly make a number or something somewhere on all the pages that shows that it is your turn in a game? Sometimes I get caught up in reading or looking and don't realize that it is my turn until I go back to the main page. Or would this be too much? Just a thought.

Mom: Yes, it is possible. What about a little number next to the Main Page link?

I assume this would be quite difficult to add (could be wrong), but what about in Chess, Checkers, Tank Battle, Tablut, etc, when the piece you click on has only one legal move that the move be done and you are taken right to the "submit?" screen, rather then having to click the destination square as well. It does that on IYT, and seems to be quite useful :-)

Kevin: Yes, it is already on my TODO list :-) And it is not difficult to implement. The only thing I need is more time ;-)

Subject: 2 Game matches
I like these matches, because of the automatic 2nd invite, which means we play with opposite colours. Also, we only get to play one of the 2 games at a time.
However, an increasing number of players want
1) each game to be seperately rated;
2) both games to show in their stats.
Could this be done?

6. January 2003, 11:46:42

Subject: Re: 2 Game matches
But thats the whole point of these 2 game matches, so you can play one of each colour and the whole outcome could be a draw. Its especially good for games where one colour has an obvious advantage, like maharajah chess for example.
If you want separate ratings for each game then send 2 separate invites, one for each colour.

Subject: Re: 2 Game matches
I agree that the point of the 2 game matches is one of each colour. However, surely there should be some ratings movement if there is a big difference in the opponents' ratings. Also, if one opponent scores two wins, the rating increases as though he/she had scored only one win. Do you get what i mean? Nice to hear from you.

6. January 2003, 12:23:21
harley
Subject: Re: 2 Game matches
Yes, I see what you mean (nice to hear form you too!), but for me thats the whole idea of these game matches, so the entire match decides the end ratings, not the individual games within the match. if I'm playing maharajah or horde chess, I like a 2 game match, the outcome is often a draw, which shows the ability of both layers at each colour since playing each colour is so different, and requires different strategies.
I think this caters for everyone, someone with a higher rating would win a 2 (or more) game match anyway, and people with lower ratings may score a draw. It gives everyone a chance.
You could always go for a 2 win match, nobody wins until someone has won 2 games. No chance of a draw there!
Or, like I say, offer 2 games, individual, one of each colour, and get ratings for both! If you make that clear at the beginning of the game thats what you want it shouldn't be a problem!

6. January 2003, 12:33:44
tonyh
Subject: Re: 2 Game matches
I agree that I can get my outcome by offering 2 games, individual but I have to play both at the same time. That doesn't worry me, because I have unlimited games - but a load of Brain Pawns cannot cope with 2 games at once. I could start with a Black - but then, in my experience, the opponent refuses to play me with White!!
If I get a draw from a 2 game match with a higher rated player, then should I not be rewarded? That's what happens in single games?

I think what tony is asking for here is really another option, a kind of guaranteed home-and-away individual two game match, and I don't see that it has to replace the existing best-of-two games which is quite a different thing. Can't we have both options?

6. January 2003, 13:17:30

Yes, quite happy with that; exactly what I am asking for.

Subject: Re: 2 Game matches
Ah, I see! I thought you were after replacing the current 2 games match with individually rated games within a 2 match set-up. As an extra it would work.
Yeah, I see where you're coming from now, its a good idea, but really shouldn't be necessary if two players agreed to have 2 individual games, one after the other, of different colours. Shame on them if they refuse you the second game after its been agreed.
Your rating should still go higher though, if you get a draw with a higher rated player. Not as much as if you'd won of course but it should go up a bit. Thats my understanding anyway.
And thanks grillyx for clearing up what Tony meant!

Might be silly but Fencer, have you ever thought of having 10 minute games? What I mean is....for those whose on-line friends that aren't on to play with at that moment. The people (members) that are on the site at that moment could post 10 minute games and have their exp. date as maybe 10 minutes or so. Then if someone was on-line that they wanted to play with, but not start a new game, could play for 10 minutes. You could maybe have the winner as the person who placed the most pieces and could only offer it to the "Members" as a plus for their membership. As smart as you are, you could put a timer on the game page and the person whose turn it was would have so many seconds to make a play. If they didn't then they forfeited their turn or something. The BKR's wouldn't have to count for these games since they would be set on a timer. It would be just for fun for the members who have to wait for someone to play against.
