Since the recent ban from Brainking that I endured, I have come back and just do not seem to be able to get back into rev 6x6 (which was my best game) :o( If anyone who has recently played me has noticed where I am going wrong, I would be grateful for some advice :o)
See these sort of things do affect us,

PS. nice to see some prompt moderating and it included a Customer Service rep for a change

It was because even after I posted to keep this on topic you still want to keep going. I have asked for it to be moved and I hope you as the others have will cease here.

I am sorry Rose...but as you can clearly see, it was Harley who started the off topic discussion... merley was responding to her posted comments. same as I am now responding to your post, even though it is off topic for this board.

I am offended that you have singled me out to be banned for being off topic, and have, for some unknown reason, decided to not warn Harley, who mad more off topic comments than I had...

If we could keep the topics to Reversi and it's variants I would appreciate it! Loads of other boards to take the disputes to.
Thanks

it might be worthwhile having Fencer check his ip address against other users. May be a multi id

Chess master wrote me an apology message this evening. He felt bad and didnt realize he said that it was wrong to use an analizing program to help out in games. He said he wants the game between us deleted as well ( fencer can you do that please? Confirm with chessmaster1000 on this) I have offered up another game to chessmaster saying I want to play him without him using any programs, I will make it 10x10. I appreciate that he is trying to make amends for his actions!

LOL could well be, LJ! I do believe everyone deserves the benefit of the doubt when possible. If he continues to use the programme over and over without telling anyone (and the better players here can always tell), THEN would be the time for harsh judgement.
Stevie, I have thought about it, and of course its possible. But its also possible that he's a genuine guy who made a mistake without realising.

27. April 2004, 20:54:22
LongJohn GZ
you pulled it in just in time LOL
But I think you are really giving him an incredible amount of BOTD (benefit of the doubt)
Must be the mother coming out in you :)

27. April 2004, 20:53:35
Stevie
Have you thought about this...
...Was knowing what he was doing,
Then gets caught out and has to admit it, unfortunately to someone who will say how it is and warn people etc etc instead of cower in the corner not saying anything or standing up for them for no reason.
So then comes up with a planned get out line of.....I didnt know it wasnt allowed..

27. April 2004, 20:28:54
harley
Well he has said that he didn't realise it wasn't allowed here. I guess for all he knew the majority of players he was against also used programmes. I don't know the guy and have never played him, but I feel he is being judged a bit harshly. He wasn't aware of the feelings about programmes, and has said he will make his opponent aware in future if he wishes to use one. Ratings will even out again and there doesn't seem much harm done. Everyone makes mistakes, he's admitted his and is willing to not make them again in future play.
I'll pull my head back in now!

27. April 2004, 20:25:41
LongJohn GZ
looks to me like he really was trying to take credit and feel good about the win using a program and that it made him feel superior to you. Sounds like it could possibly be an inferiority complex to me. Maybe IYT would be better for him.

27. April 2004, 20:14:04
Rose
That's true too.
I just would have liked the option to know he was using aprogram when we played. I didnt know until he had won an basically admitted it and then said I was good but he was better. Not amused. Some people take their chess seriously, I take my reversi very seriously. I am hoping that game is deleted from the records!

27. April 2004, 20:13:15
LongJohn GZ
Dammit Steve, please say something I disagree with, this is becoming a little too common

27. April 2004, 20:10:31
Stevie
We have a rating system here, it wouldnt be good if the players at the top, were there not by their own doing, holding genuine players off of being up there

27. April 2004, 20:06:50
Rose
I was duped as were others who played him this week and I would like to see his wins taken away. I work hard at my reversi rating and I am not happy that a cheat program was used to kick my butt. Can't help that sorry.

27. April 2004, 20:02:50
harley
I see your point LongJohn :o) I really do.
But I do think as long as he states before the start of the game that he may use a programme - and his opponent agrees - then its ok. Anyone here may be using a programme without his/her opponent knowing. At least this guy is upfront about it. But I can see why it causes anger too.

27. April 2004, 19:59:08
LongJohn GZ
may as well save money on your internet connection and play the proggy on your own computer instead if you are gonna do that

27. April 2004, 19:57:53
Rose
And make sure someone suggests to Filip to please add in his list of rules that using programs to play is a form of cheating and therefore not allowed.
I don't wanna play anyone whos using a program I can tell u that.. why bother playing when you know a program is going to beat you?

27. April 2004, 19:51:08
LongJohn GZ
sorry Harley but honestly, you have a valid point but I cannot agree here. He has openly admitted to resorting to a program when "the going gets tough" No matter how someone defends themselves, that is point blank cheating. We will have to agree to disagree on this one I am afraid

27. April 2004, 19:48:31
harley
I think the guy sounds genuine enough. He has explained his position, on which he's actually right, there isn't anything specific in the rules about using programmes.
He's also said from now on he'll inform his opponent that he may use a programme. What more can you ask? He's been very open and upfront in my opinion. Give him a break!

what is "retaehc" spelt backwards?

27. April 2004, 19:25:45

Thats what I dont like, I was also told "I dont like to lose" so the programme is so they dont have losses by genuine players :o(

I dont think they realise that Logistello is Arnie LOL

when i have doubts i open the program i've created and see the moves it's suggests

In other words, when I am stumped and not doing so well I will let the computer take over.

Subject: Hello.

Well, i saw the discussion about me on Reversi 8x8 boards about cheating by using a program. Well the truth is that i play the game by myself and when i have doubts i open the program i've created and see the moves it's suggests. I didn't know this is forbidden here so i've done it many times. Not always. So it's not a case of cheating but a case of ignorance. I even saw a player called logistello and i wondered if he was using logistello.
Since the games here are in a correspondence form i thought using a program for the best possible play was legal. It seems that's not the case.
But i haven't seen anywhere in the FAQ's that using a program is not allowed, so it seemed to me perfectly logical to use a program.

Anyway from now on, i would inform the opponent before the game, that (s)he is going to play with a human and possibly with a computer. I say possibly, as in not all of my games, i played with the help of my program. And if he accepts this OK. If not, again OK. So everything is fine.

As for my Reversi 8x8 BKR, the moderators can't do everything they want. As i can't write to the Reversi discussion board, could you please tranfer these, for letting the moderator to know?

Murakami was at the time the best human player in the world, who won the world title that year, though he didn't have it all his own way and almost fell to the sucker punch of Garry Edmead.

I decided to rename myself after my favourite othello program. I am a fan of it because I just love the way it humiliated Takeshi Murakami in 1996.
