<Fencer: But usually I'm not on the main page when I want to go to the info page.. Usually I'm reading BK.c when Harley mentions her latest interview is up. :> I like having all the links on the left of every page. :)

Passwords and cookies: My password is too long, and I don't pick passwords too easy to remember because they're also easier to break. I let my browser remember for me, but I couldn't do that with a work or library computer. Neither, though, could I do cookies.

Just an asside while we're on the subject of passwords: A password should be at least 8 characters long, with caps, numbers and lower-case letters mixed up, and when possible, non-alphanumeric characters. Much tougher to break.

I would like a link on the left (in collumn layout -- where they are in row layout I've no clue ;) for the info page. If it's already there, then I'd like a new pair of glasses, please. ;)

In reference to the flags, I'd like to reiterate my request that they have 'title="<country>"' in the img tags, please. Would be nice to be able to hover and see to which country the flag belongs. ;)

Sorry, Ug.. I should have cut more of the original post from the bk.c board. It was in reference to the different time-limit suggestions going on there. The idea was to be able to base entrance to tournaments on (started out as average moves per day) the average percent of the time limit said person used, in addition to bkr ratings. No, only one time limit per tournament. :)

Yes, I'm copying and pasting from one board to another, but it's my post so :-P~~~~~

If a person is playing in many different games and tournaments with many different time limits (and doesn't always have time to live on the computer), it's only natural they will play the shorter times quicker, and more often. So if a player plays his five-day tournaments within three days, his 15-day games within 10 days, etc, he's using roughly 60% of his time limits. So if you set up a tournament with a seven-day limit, and you want people to move within 2 or 3 days, you only allow people who take an average of 20% (or less) of their time limit. That way you have that 'buffer' of time that folks go on about so that 'if anything happens' people will still have 7 days to make the move, but most will be taking it earlier.

I think it would be nice if, down next to the 'move and go to...' dropdown box, we had a checkbox for 'or go to next game if none'. It would also be nice if this checkbox was included in the 'make this the default' routine, in which case the box would not need to be checked each time.

For those of use who use some other setting than 'next game' (and of course, the box wouldn't be needed if that is the case), it would make things go quicker by not having to revert back to the main page and scroll down to find the next game we want to play.

I just think the non-prize tournaments deserve a chance to get players, too. It was mentioned that only the prize tournaments be circulated.. I don't think that's fair. I certainly would not want to see only the prize tournaments be displayed in the random links bit (where a tournament will show up above your games) since I would guess most people find tournaments to join through those links.

I'm not saying prize tournies should not get a little something extra (like the bold highlighting they have now), I just don't think non-prize tournies should get short-ended in the process.

I don't think we should go too far overboard in weighting the prize tourney ads over the non-prize ones... The non-prize jobs will soon be either a thing of the past or wasted effort. :/

I suspect the 'draw offer' being at the bottom has to do with the setting of 'put gameboard at top of page' for each player (I would imagine most have it set on). A compromise might be to include among the 'move and...' buttons one at the cluster's top, saying, 'cancel move and accept offer of draw'.

Subject: Re: Vacation days
If I go on vacation, I don't stop breathing. I'll likely be a bit busier with other things, might have a chance to pop in and make a few moves here and there, but mostly I'll be afk. I might even pop in and play one person, just to give them a shout (game message) about something. You seem to be saying 'vacation' equates to self-induced ban for XX days.

There are only so many vacation days -- use them unwisely, they're gone when you need them. Playing a light load while on vacation should not be a crime.

How bout this for a 'committee': Can it. 'Committee' action is what caused this fiasco in the first place. Committees are notoriously corrupt cliques. Just put MadMonkey back where he belongs.

"all their membership fees are on the banned name." Then that name should be reinstated or all fees refunded.

Long 'if I don't agree it's wrong' John resigned a couple games because 'I can't be bothered playing so slow'. Tough noogies. As for the feature? There are times when I know it would have come in handy, but I'm not really thrilled about the idea, so I, for one, am quite glad Fencer has vetoed the concept. I guess I must be 'blind'.

Fencer: In that case I'd suggest moving those players to the section with the nearest range to theirs. Either that, or leave it for the director to decide (mayhaps with a notice when they close signups: "So and so(s) have not enough for a section, what should I do?"). Might be an idea to leave it for the creator also to decide whether to move them to a range higher or lower than their BKR, too.

PS I thought it was 4 or more players?

Subject: Re: Tournament Winner Notification
Fencer: We can do that, yes, but what about those outside that range? That would be a lot of extra tournaments, and the more there are, the less chance enough people will join, and a lot of extra db space if a tournament were started for ever 200 BKR range. What I meant, was a tournament where anyone could join, but when the sections were set up (with this option checked) each section would include players within a set range of each other.

I've no doubt it would be tons of new code, because I haven't seen anything here like it (afaik).

I would like to see the option to make some (not all) tournaments 'equal matching' .. such as within a range of perhaps 200 BKR. Of course, this would never do for those who only want to increase their BKR, and I would not want to play all games with equals myself. I enjoy playing with those who can whump my butt <g> because that's how you improve. I learned to shoot pool from two excellent players and one superb hustler ('traveling insurance salesman' my arse, Clarence.. if you're listening! ;) so I know well the value of playing advanced players. But now and then it's nice just to play someone at roughly your level just for fun. :)

Subject: fellowship tournaments
Since fellowship tournaments are all about one game each, it would be nice if you could see on your list (on the fellowship home page) how many players had signed up for each one.

On the flip side, it would be nice if you could create a fellowship tournament in the same way you do a public tournament, except that the list of games would only include those with a corresponding team. Thinking about this, though, it might be counter-productive of the future vision of inter-fellowship matches. Perhaps, then, a new feature to allow intra-fellowship tournaments as described above, with a different link to define them or an option on the edit tournament page (check this box and open a list of games to chose from). :)

Hey Fencer, do you have an approximate timeframe on the 'choose which order to run 'next game' in' ? I love the little drop-down box for 'go to this game', and the (*) is great, too. However, when you have a lot of tournaments going with many of the same games, it's hard to keep track of which are the 1-day moves and which are 3 weeks. I'd like to run next game in the order of time left, so I'd never have to worry about timing out.

Addendum: Perhaps just add the time left to the drop-down box, if this is possible?
(2) Or maybe sort the drop list in the same order as main page order?
