I'm chess noob so I don't understand, can somebody explain to me why this ended as stalemate? Screen Chess (Chaosu vs. francescolr)

Subjekt: Re:
Chaosu:
Stalemate is where the side to move (black here) can make no legal moves and the game is a draw.
The king can not move to the g file because all squares are covered by the queen. He can't move to H5 because it is covered by the queen and knight. He cant go to H3 because it is attacked by the bishop. So the king is not in check (so it is not check mate) but he has no legal moves so it is stalemate.

Is this standard chess rule? I never heard about it, I thought I trapped king and that's it but I have to put it on check and trap at the same time. Interesting!

Chaosu: yes it is a standard rule. You have to be in check to win.

Does anyone know if the 3-fold repetition and 40-moves draw is enforced for chess and variations?

ThunderGr:
Think you mean 50 moves. Brainking does not automatically agree a draw but Fencer will make the game a draw if you request it and your opponent will not agree otherwise.

ketchuplover: I am doubting their accuracy. Perhaps they've never heard of BrainKing? Or maybe they personally dislike this site?
Or does 109,000 members mean nothing? What criteria do they use for ranking a site for be good for Chess?

Subjekt: Re: brainking is NOT...
ketchuplover: Site visits? I looked at their chart, but I cannot figure out what the columns mean. They do not have a legend explaining the column headers, and I'm not very good with abbreviations when I do not know the subject very well.

None of the non-chess-specific sites are mentioned: BK, GT, IYT.
