BerniceC: I couldn't believe I was reading that somebody was selling oxalis. It certainly is a noxious weed in NZ I've got 3 types growing in my gardens & lawn. Thankfully I have mainly creeping oxalis which isn't so bad but it certainly creeps.

I understand how many varieties of Oxalis could become a pestic plant in certain locales.  It could not survive the winters such as we have in the northern USA.  It is typically sold in the USA as an ornamental houseplant, especially around St. Patty's Day.  I can imagine though that a field of them could be quit lovely to see, however difficult they are too kill off.  Much like bamboo.
In Maine there are certain varieties of lithrum which are considered weeds, but purchased here in NY by avid gardeners for their beauty and hardiness.  In Hawaii the verbena and impatiens that are naturalized there are pulled out as weeds.

Predicts a snowfall April 2 for heavens sake.

Foxy Lady: Pretty mild we get a few frosty mornings but no snow, worst we we get is fog and black ice but thats not so common now adays

skipinnz: Black ice is my biggest fear of winter.

Well it was right just a few days late it snowed here.Guess my daffys and Tulips will go back to sleep.

My roses out back are on overload with blooming. I never got around to pruning them, and I guess they are rejoicing. lol

Eriisa: All this talk of flowers makes me jealous. We had snow saturday and I was just getting ready to lime the yard.. Our grass isnt green, the tulips arent up yet nor are the iris's.. I figure were looking at a late start to our season this year.. Wont be much fun since we planned on putting in cukes and pumpkins. U need 100+ days for good pumpkins or more..

Rose: Glad to see someone else grows pumpkin's, I've just pulled out mine, had a bumper crop got 30 stored away for pumpkin soup and scones

skipinnz:WOW! 30 is amazing. I figure with the start of this years season I will be lucky to get 5! Do you make muffins as well? My most favourite muffin is pumpkin! YUM!  

Rose: Easy to get that many when you have a gully you can plant them in LOL. Haven't tried muffins will look around for a receipe.

Rose: I tried growing pumpkins once,i was told to inject them with milk. I did and they grew than got all mushy.I'm with you we had snow yesterday and another storm coming in.We can't plant till the end of May.This year it maybe later.

Foxy Lady: I do but i also buy buttercups each year because the seed doesn't stay true.

skipinnz: We have clay soil and really have to work it good.Plus add alot of peatmoss and etc,Every other year we save seeds to use cause of the soil.I checked our compost it's frozen.

The weather here is beautiful, washing out and blowing in the soft breeze, birds singing and finally my daughter has a smile on her face LOL

I was given one for my birthday and cant find too much on how to grow them....they appear to be relatively hard to get, and I would appreciate anything you can find for me :)

Hi Bernice
What you have is an anthurium  They prefer tropical climates and low light...they grow wild in rain forests due to the shade and abundant humidity....but do not over water it in your house.  The lack of humidity somehow makes them need less water in a home...unless you live in a green house.  I repeat, let it dry out slightly between waterings and cut off the dead blooms as soon as they wither. Feed it like any house plant but do not put into direct sunlight as the leaves will burn.  These types of plants prefer to be pot bound. That promotes flowering.

Darn but those roots are deep and spread like tentacles under the building and the sidewalk.
