I've just been at this restaraunt where they had scorpion on the menu. We ordered a couple and a few minutes later the waitress turned up with two scorpions standing side by side on a leaf, complete with claws, heads and stings. A cullinary lightyear from fish and chips.

Относно: Cranberry Raisin Tart
I like to buy extra cranberries while they are available and keep them in the freezer.

Makes one 10-11 inch tart or 8 tartlets 4 1/2 inch diameter.
You need unbaked pastry for a 2 crust 10-11 inch pie.
3 cups fresh or frozen whole cranberries, picked over, rinced and patted dry with paper towels
1 cup raisins
1/2 cup walnuts chopped coarse
1 large orange: grated rind plus 1/2 cup orange juice
1/2 cup dark brown sugar packed
1 cup sugar (if you like a very sweet pie add an extra 1/2 cup sugar)
2 Tablespoons quick cooking tapioca
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

egg glaze: 1 egg beaten with 1 Tablespoon water

Prepare your pastry and use half of it to line a pan or tartlet shells.
In a bowl combine and stir together cranberries, raisins, walnuts, orange rind and juice, sugar, tapioca and spices
Brush the egg glaze over the bottom of the pastry
Fill with the fruit mixture and spread flat
Place on your top crust, crimp edges, brush top with egg glaze, sprinkle lightly with sugar and cut slits or holes to allow steam to escape
Place in a preheated 425 fahrenheit oven bake 15 minutes reduce heat to 350 bake an additional 30-35 minutes or untill crust is golden brown

Mock Goose

A tasty war~time recipe for a layered lentil loaf, good served with gravy and either mint or apple sauce. Also nice with salad. I use it as a vegetarian alternative for Sunday lunch.

6oz split red lentils.
1/2 pt water
1/2 oz butter
I lemon for juice and rind.
salt and freshly ground black pepper.
1 bay leaf

Thoroughly grease a large saucepan then add water bay leaf and lentils, bring to boil and simmer gently until cooked and all the water has been absorbed.
Mix in butter, lemon juice and rind, salt and pepper.

For the stuffing :
1 medium onion, chopped and softened in butter. Add 1 1/2 tsp sage 1/2 tsp parsley, salt and freshly ground black pepper.
Turn 3 slices of thick sliced wholemeal bread into fresh breadcrumbs and add. Stir to mix.

Grease a 2lb loaf tin, put half the lentil mix in, then cover with stuffing mix (any left over ~ serve separately) then cover with remaining lentil mix. Cover with a butter wrapper and a piece of foil.

Bake in over Gas mark 6 400deg F 200 deg C for 40 minutes.

Will freeze if not all used.

Относно: Well if you like the sound of that.. take the same recipe.. and instead of making
the meat loaf.. roll the mixture into 1 inch balls.. and fry in the skillet with just a bit of oil.. Then.. let them simmer for at least 2 hours in the bbq sauce recipe below..

4 Cups Ketchup
1/2 Cup brown sugar
1/4 Cup vinegar
2 TBs whoreshire sauce
1 Cup grape jelly

This recipe is posted by approximation.. I don't usually follow recipes.. so correct measurements are mostly done by tastes.. the consistancy should be similar to a thick syrup. I would recommend tasting as you blend..

This is a great dish to set out on a buffet.. I usually make this up around the Holidays and since it is requested to at least 4 events.. I make it all up at once and freeze the balls.. and put the sauce in gallon milk jugs.. easier to transport to parties this way..
