When it is done, BrainKing will automatically suspended the game time for 24 hours, in order to avoid timeouts in games with low time control (1 hour and similar). Thank you for understanding.
The February Action for the first ten subscribers was a nice success but its disadvantage is obvious - the users from different time zones didn't have the same chance to take advantage of it. That's why the current action introduces the system of color codes which are activated randomly and nobody can foretell the time and type of the next bonus activation.
Please read the Bonus List page for more information. When you see a small flashing light bulb on the Main Page, you know a bonus is active and can be used. But don't hesitate for a long time - some bonuses (especially the one which adds 100% to the subscribed period) can be active only for several minutes.
The bonuses can be used only if a purchased membership is for 1 year or longer period and it is not a Brains payment.
For this month, we are experimenting with Action Points again and the winners of this contest will be awarded by a free membership as usual. In order to make the system a little different, there is one new rule: the first two points of the list of options (move points and win points) are valid only for one game type. The game is selected randomly by the server and is automatically changed every 12 hours. Please read all rules here.

Well, we are going to give something for free in February because we think it is a good idea:
The first ten users who purchase at least two years of any kind of a paid membership (or renews the current one by at least two years) will receive one year of the same level for free.
The second ten users who purchase at least two years of any kind of a paid membership (or renews the current one by at least two years) will receive six months of the same level for free.
And everybody (including those who take advantage of the mentioned offers) who purchases at least a year of any kind of a paid membership (or renews the current one by at least another year) will receive a full retail version of ArchMage, a new game by 300AD.com. The game would be available in both PC and Mac versions.
Just a year ago we started the system of regular monthly actions which motivate people to upgrade to a higher membership level because they always get something more as a free bonus. This year is not an exception and I would like to begin with a new product promotion of one of my friends.

BrainKing's November Action has been launched and it is not about Action Points:
1) In order to make the set of chess pieces completed, Brain Bishop is the new level of membership and it has been just released. Its capabilities are equivalent to Brain Knight but it can be purchased as a monthly subscription for 2 EUR. It is a good option who want to try a paid membership for a minimal price.
2) Since we like to introduce new features with something special, the new membership level is not an exception. Everybody who purchases the Brain Bishop membership during November 2006, will get 1 extra month for free as a bonus.
3) Other paying members can take advantage of the action as well. Everybody with Brain Knight or higher level, who purchases a Brain Bishop membership for someone else (during this month), will receive 1 extra month to his own membership level for free. It means that, for example, if you are a Brain Rook, you can get another year of this membership for only 24 Euro (instead of 30) by purchasing a Brain Bishop level for twelve users. BrainKing brings, after a long wait (yes, my wife wanted me to add it since December 2002, so it is for her now), one of the oldest and most popular games in the world - Go - and its two smaller variants, Go 9x9 and Go 13x13. Please read the BrainKing rules of this game, even if you know how to play it. And, as a small bonus, the game of Connect6 as an addition to the pieces-in-line family.
Since the current BrainKing system of colours of game pieces (white player always starts a game) is not suitable for all game types and more games will be added soon, I have decided to fix this problem globally for all game types. When the fix is applied, some games would be started by a black player (checkers, pente, shogi, go, etc.) or red player (xiangqi) and this feature would be highlighted in game invitations. It will also affect all other games (running or finished), so don't be alarmed if the colour of your pieces changes from white to black etc. It is just a visual fix, nothing else will be modified. This improvement will be active in a day or two, along with the release of the game of Go.
April Action! This month is dedicated to free advertising on BrainKing. Everybody who purchases a new membership or extends the current one, can place a text advertisement to the right column (see BrainKing April Action box) to promote own site or any other favourite pages for free. The duration of showing this advertisement depends on the length and level of the purchased membership:
2 days for 6 months Brain Rook, 5 days for 1 year Brain Rook, 12 days for 2 years Brain Rook.
1 day for 6 months Brain Knight, 3 days for 1 year Brain Knight, 7 days for 2 years Brain Knight.
Other kinds of membership will be sorted individually.</ul> The promoted sites must be legal, of course - no porn, warez, terrorist etc. pages are allowed. The click statistics page of the advertisement will be provided to the corresponding person as well. The advertisements will be "serialized" - a new one appears after the previous one expires.
March Action! BrainKing offers a very special bonus this month - everybody who purchases a new membership or extends the current one, can create a prize tournament with the same membership as the prize for a winner for free. In order to create a tournament, you must have a Brain Rook level or higher, either before the membership purchase or after.
1) BrainKing introduces Fellowship team matches - a similar system to team tournaments but based on individual challenges from one fellowship to another one. The challenges can be created by team captains on the fellowship pages.
2) A reminder of the February action! Zoals sommige van u al zal zijn opgevallen, is er nu aan alle backgammon varianten de mogelijkheid voor verdubbeling toegevoegd. Voor wie nog niet bekend is met deze spelwijze, verwijs ik graag naar de vernieuwde versie van de Backgammon spelregels voor alle verdere details.

Zoals ik al beloofd had eerder deze maand is dan nu Capablanca Random Schaken toegevoegd aan de schaakvarianten als vervanger voor het verwijderde Gothisch Schaken. En omdat ik er niet van houd om slechts één spel per keer toe te voegen, kan er vanaf nu ook Los Alamos Schaken gespeeld worden, waarmee het totale aantal schaakvarianten op het mooi ronde getal van 25 komt.

De aangekondigde herberekening van de BKR is nu doorgevoerd, inclusief die van het BKR verloop. De fout in de formule is hersteld en de huidige waarden zijn correct.

Omdat er een bug gevonden is in het ratingsysteem en de berekening daarvan, zal het BKR-verloop opnieuw gegenereerd worden. Daarvoor zal de site weer korte tijd niet bereikbaar zijn op dinsdag 27 september 2005, 7 uur ´s ochtends CET. Deze actie neemt waarschijnlijk niet meer dan een uurtje in beslag. Na de werkzaamheden zullen de BKRs licht afwijken (lager zijn) van wat ze nu zijn, maar definitief niet incorrect.

Ik heb een winkelwagensysteem gecreëerd en geïnstalleerd voor alle betalingen binnen BrainKing (lidmaatschap, t-shirts, enz). Het maakt de transacties een stuk eenvoudiger, geeft de mogelijkheid transacties en hun status bij te houden en maakt naar alle waarschijnlijkheid een einde aan alle voorheen voorkomende problemen.

1) Na wat experimenten en succesvolle overboekingen vanuit verschillende landen (Verenigde Staten, Duitsland, Slowakije, Zuid-Afrika) kan ik nu met vreugde meedelen dat er een nieuwe betalingsmethode voor BrainKing bijgekomen is, speciaal voor diegenen die geen credit card of PayPalrekening hebben. Voor verdere details gaat u naar: Sectie 4 – Overboekingen (internationaal).
2) Vanwege permanente problemen met de bedenker van Gotisch Schaken heb ik besloten het volgende te doen:
a) Vanaf 31 augustus 2005 kunnen geen nieuwe partijen of toernooien van dit speltype opgezet worden. Partijen die op dat moment bezig zijn, kunnen gewoon voortgezet worden.
b) Vanaf 1 januari 2005 zal Gotisch Schaken compleet worden verwijderd van BrainKing en vervangen worden door Capablanca Random Schaken dat veel overeenkomt met Gotisch, maar waar geen licenties of patenten en dus geen toekomstige problemen mee gemoeid zijn. Waarschijnlijk verschijnt Capablanca Random Schaken hier al in September 2005.
Ik wil graag duidelijk maken dat dit een uitzonderlijke situatie is die nooit kan voorkomen met enig ander spel op BrainKing. De integriteit en toekomst van onze site zijn echter altijd onze eerste prioriteit, ook wanneer dit helaas mogelijk enkele spelers doet besluiten hier niet meer te komen vanwege 1 ontbrekende spelsoort.

Zoals u misschien al gemerkt hebt, zijn er verschillende verbeteringen ingevoerd in het rating en ranglijst systeem:
1) Er is geen limiet meer op de maximum BKR (voorheen 2700). Er was geen reden om deze in stand te houden en om de sterkste spelers voor altijd tegen dit plafond aan te houden.
2) Om de Ranglijsten zuiverder en preciezer te maken, worden alle inactieve spelers na verloop van tijd uit de Ranglijsten verwijderd. De inactieve tijd wordt gerekend vanaf de laaste beëindigde ratingpartij per spelsoort en staat ingesteld op 1 maand voor Brain Pionnen en 6 maanden voor betalende leden. Door deze aanpassing wordt vermeden dat niet-actieve spelers met een hoge BKR voor altijd aan de top van de lijsten blijven staan.

BrainKing introduceert vandaag vijf nieuwe spellen – Legan Schaken, Paard Wissel Schaken, PahToem, Hasami Shogi en Grand Schaken.
Korte tijd (zo´n 1-2 uur) zal BrainKing aanstaande woensdag 24 Augustus 2005 vanaf 7 uur ´s ochtends (CET) niet bereikbaar zijn vanwege het installeren van verbeteringen aan de BKR-berekening (de 2700 punten limiet wordt opgeheven, inactieve gebruikers worden van de ranglijsten verwijderd, enz.) en het regenereren van de ontwikkelingen in de BKR.

Omdat deze spellen nieuw zijn op onze site kan het zijn dat er nog bugs en andere fouten in opduiken, ik raad aan ze te testen met een groter aantal dagen per zet, zodat ik in staat ben om mogelijke fouten tijdig te herstellen :-)
De spellen worden voorlopig weergegeven met Westerse versies van de stukken (dit zal het leren van het spel versimpelen voor spelers die niet bekend zijn met de Chinese en Japanse karakters). Later voeg ik nog de originele Chinese en Japanse versies toe, en ook de mogelijkheid om de grootte van het bord en de stukken aan te passen.
