It seems that handicap stones are not handled correctly in the .sgf export code...

what would be immensely helpful for teaching is a "load SGF file and start at move 16" for example. I have several people that once I point out a key mistake in the game, we start from there again... currently, we just take turns to get there... manually.. but the above feature would be very cool ;)

Hrqls:

At the end of the game, notice how there are two groups towards the bottom middle that are "coexisting". This means, that neither player wants to try and capture the other players stones, because this would lead to a capture by the other player. At first glance, it would seem that my stones are "dead" inside my opponents territory.

okay, great! I prefer Chinese scoring with pass stones, as stated somewhere else on this board. It really simplifies scoring, disputes and teaching, in my opinion.

thanks! If I get enough questions like "why X and not Y at move Z" then I will use that SGF and properly comment the game ;)

okay, I'll try to answer your questions. Unfortunately, I have no idea how the BK scoring works. Traditionally, in both Chinese and Japanese scoring "seki eyes" are not counted as territory.

yes, unfortunately, i was unable to explain to my opponent that my group at the bottom-center is alive in seki... he seemed to think that I won by (only) 0.5 point. oh well, maybe I should learn polish ;)

IMHO, Chinese Scoring (http://senseis.xmp.net/?ChineseScoring) with pass stones (http://senseis.xmp.net/?PassStones) would be the way to go.

jurek: Maybe this will clearify:

http://senseis.xmp.net/?Dame

the point being, that these stones shouldn't have to be explictly played to score. Many Go server client operate this way, for example the KGS client. In this case, dame points are marked and not scored.

jurek: no, white has all the territory *except* for black's 5 points. It's a much larger win than 11.5 to 1. Make sense?

mangue: (s)he didn't resign at the point I'm refering to.. see move 37. We were forced to keep playing...

Salkkuman: why? my opponent shouldn't be able to make any live groups, and we both passed. Now we should score...

Asunto: scoring
there seems to be a problem when trying to score a game with less than complete borders. Case-in-point:

Mirjam: okay, that makes sense. Is a spline curve used that takes into account a user's past and future expected win percentage, or are the points gained from defeating a stronger player awarded and then that defeat is never taken into consideration again?

Fwiffo: Thanks! So, I see that handicap games are automatically not rated... which kinda sucks, as this is one of the main attractions/tenets to Go... But, perhaps in due time this can be added. Also, does the rating formula take into consideration how strong the players are who you defeat?
