I couldn't find the rules for Dark Ponds. Is it the other players total score that is hidden.....or what they bid?

My problem with this Run In The Rain Pond is.. most of the time there is no winner. Those that win are very few. Is there anyway a winner can be declared in this pond? I always end up with Fencer..He just won't let me win.. I should say many times.LOL What fun is playing a game and no winner? To me it is getting more interesting playing..but the fun is gone when you play an no one wins. Just my feeling on this.

Subject: Re:
jryden:

1) Well I have noticed that the opening bid has slowly been growing as time goes on. For a 16-25 player pond, an opening bid in the 40's is usually OK. With more players, you *MAY* be able to go a little lower - but with the first few bids - 10-20-50 points is NOT going to make a diffrence in the game - so I normally don't take the chance.

You can also take a look at past bids in current ponds - so take a look at a few - study the first few moves by players. That will also help.

2) The beter you do, the higher your BKR! (Other then that, I'm not sure - it's supposable similar to how the regular game BKR's are calculated, but not sure how.)

3) When a player becomes a pawn, they can no longer move - so their last move will become they move for all the next rounds. So if you are watching, you will know you can bid 1 point above the pawn's auto-move and still stay in the game

Subject: Re:
jryden: some answers from an experienced me :)

1) between 50 and 70 should be fine
2) it has something to do with the sum of the bkrs of the players who have fallen in before you and the sum of bkr of the players who are still there when you fall in the pond
3) a pawn cant make a new bet .. so when someone becomes a pawn during a pond .. he will repeat his last bet until he is out of points or until he falls into the pond

have fun! :)

A couple of pond questions...I'm just getting into this pond thing

1) Anyone have an opening bid strategy they care to share?

2) How is BKR actually calcuated?

3) People often refer to the effect a 'new pawn' has on the game. When happens when a player becomes a pawn during the game? Is this explained somewhere because I'm sure I've read the rules a couple of times.

Thanks, Happy ponding.

Andre Faria: ah! nice! glad that isnt possible ... because as soon as that would happen then the 2nd in line to fall in would bet 0 as well .. after a week the bottom 3 would do it .. until after about 5 centuries everyone except the winner would bet 0 ;)

Subject: Re:
Hrqls: What I meant to say was: If I just have a few points, and would know that I would be next to fall in the pond, if I bet 0, another person would fall with me (the one with the small bet after me). This way, I would not lose to that particular person and lose less BKR points.

That´s why the rule we were talking of, just aplies to the first round... I think that was what Goonerg was trying to say as well...

The only time others fall is if a player fails to move on the first round. I don't quite see why the first round is different but it is.

grenv: the rain ponds as they are right now never run out of points .. the players slowly raise their bets ... using only a small part of their total

when the total number to start with is lower .. then people might start to bet lower to start with .. i am not sure if it makes a difference .. but it might

also with a lower starting total the bonus might make a difference (now it doesnt as noone ever runs out of points in the end) ... when people would start running out of points .. except the ones who would have gotten the bonus .. then the game might change a but

but i am not sure on that one either .. maybe the algorithm by which players bet wont change at all ... so it might make no difference at all :)

So for these, I made sure they were 1 days. But I went back in to edit the start date and they changed to 2 days. Thought I as going crazy!

So the ones that are up now I guess I will keep them as 2 day moves.
