Subject: default time per move length
Only now did I finally realize why so many people here select 7 days per move when creating game invitations. It is because the default setting is 7 days.

I wonder if someone who has the ability to create polls could pose a question to users of BK and ask what they think the default setting should be?

For example if it were to be 5 days, then everyone could still play only once a week without dipping into vacation time.

I personally prefer much shorter games, but that is another issue. People can choose to pick any time limit they want of course, but perhaps if new people (who are more likely to blindly pick the default settings) wound up with shorter time limits then their games would move along faster and they would enjoy BK more.

Same goes for tournament setting defaults. I'd like that to be even shorter if possible so that when someone carelessly forgets to change the time limit they don't wind up creating a tournament that lasts far longer than they wanted to.

Just a thought....

Fencer: I'm sure it can be condensed.

However the third one is the one I want the most. Almost every game I play is multi-game, and some of them are as long as 21 points. It is obnoxious to receive a message that tells me nothing useful at all.

Fencer: A choice of boxes to check off would be good if you are serious about this.

I have in mind the original option of choosing "don't show event messages when I end a game with my move", as well as the following options:

"Don't show event messages saying a game that is part of a multi-game match has finished if it is not the final game of the match"

Another option:

"Don't show event messages saying a game that is part of a multi-game match has finished if it is not the final game of the match unless it is accompanied by a written message by my opponent"

pedestrian: Interesting, nothing has changed for me. Not only do I see that score above the board in all of my games, but I see it above games that I am not involved in, including pgt, Carl, and you too!

For what it is worth, I use Firefox. Also I never erase Brainking cookies; maybe something at BK changed and those who erase their BK cookies don't see it anymore? I am only just guessing here....

I haven't noticed anything different. Perhaps your browser had a weird update recently or something?

grenv: In section 14 one player has won all of his games. It is mathematically over.

Happy Birthday tenuki!

A minor change in the rules for someone getting a "yellow line" in their tournament section would allow round 2 to continue while at the same time allowing the slower players to continue their games. Do this and everyone is happy....

P.S. I am not involved in the tournament. I accidentally stumbled upon it when checking out the tournaments a certain player was currently playing.

Subject: Tournament software
Currently the way things are a tournament section doesn't declare a winner until every single game in that section is finished, even if the remaining games don't affect who advances and who doesn't advance.

This sometimes holds up the next round of a tournament, making it drag on much longer than necessary. I'd love to see a feature where once the winner or winners are mathematically certain, then that player (or players) get a yellow line in the tournament table, and once all sections have yellow lines, the next round can continue.

This will allow the remaining games to continue playing with putting outside pressure on them to rush through their moves prematurely, while also not making everyone else wait needlessly for them to finish.

Thanks for you consideration.

coan.net: You just made me think of something that I have been puzzled about since I first started playing at BK. Why do both players have to permit auto-pass? If my opponent doesn't want to use auto-pass and I do, why can't he simply opt out while letting me use it?

By the way, I also like the idea of being able to change my auto-pass setting in the middle of the game, in much the same way that I can change the setting to "stay here" when my opponent is stuck on the bar and I own the cube.

Subject: Please restore a "New Game Feature"
I often post invitations to the "New Game" board. Until very recently, I had the option of choosing whether or not to allow someone I am currently playing against to accept that invitation. No longer.

Why is that option no longer available? In any case, please, please, please restore it. Options are good, one-size-fits-all policies are not.

Fencer: I agree with the others here; I don't think that there needs to be an upper limit on games played at the same time for everyone.

More sensible would be to find a way to clip the wings of those who fly too high and get into too many time forfeits as a result.

I like pedestrian's basic idea of somehow forcing people to prove they can handle lots of games before allowing them the ability to play a huge amount of games.

I also still like my notion that if you time out too many times then your tournament privileges are revoked until you have more vacation time available. With any luck the threat of the penalty would be enough to stop the problem before it even starts.

coan.net: I was about to object to that because that seriously limits anyone who want to go on vacation longer than a week without worrying about BK, but then I realized you weren't asking for a requirement of all tournaments. All you are doing is creating an option. Options are good, and potential tournament players can pick and choose which options they prefer.

Edit* This would be a good option for private games as well, not just tournaments.

Subject: timeouts
I apologize in advance if this has been brought up before.

Regarding timeouts, I'd love to have a feature that makes it impossible to sign up for new tournaments if both of the following apply:

1) You have no vacation time left.
2) You have forfeited ___ number of games since the above condition happened.

You could then sign up for new tournaments once you have more vacation time again.

I believe that this would act as a way to encourage people to play only the number of games that they think they can reasonably expect to play. As things stand right now, some people simply don't care, and it delays round two of tournaments from starting, amongst other things.

Thanks for your consideration,
happyjuggler0
