Subject: Time control
I have a main problem. As I-m for 5 days till tuesday evening in a part where the internet infrastructure is mostly of the time down, I-m not able to prevent going time out... is there a possibility for an exception...i mean could an admin think about to stop my games going time out till tuesday evening? Im on a humanitary trip with oppositional from preshevo serbia, the most poor part of the balkan... we are here with our borderfree association from switzerland to document with media the crucial situation of around 3000 to 5000 refugees coming per day... so i try to login before i go to sleep, but there is no way to keep the connection up for more as 10 min. cause the infrastructure is very minimal here and sometimes not possible to play... i wrote yesterday to fencer, but he didnt answer yet... is there another admin that could think about to make 1 exception and prevent me to go time out? i really care about my games, so i would like to be able to play them down as usual after im back in switzerland zuerich *tuesday evening... please help

speachless: It is so sad that this had to happen. I am pretty sure none of us wanted to win on time-out like that. Too pity Fencer decided not to suspend the timer for one day...considering it has already happened by mistake more than once...

ThunderGr: You have 34 days and 21 hours vacation days left, surely that should see you through it?

ThunderGr: no problem, i really can understand that and fencer was really nice by offering vacation days, which i don-t need, it was only concerning fischer clock games *hundreds of them ... its a fair offer of fencer and at the end of the day, there are only points im loosing... in front of this tragedy im seing here every day, i feel like its not the end of the day.. .i appreciate fencers offer really much, thank you for your supporting word Thunder Gr

speachless: It is my opinion that the clock on a site like this serves as a means to prevent abuse and mischief by players with no spirit of sportsmanship. The main goal is to provide the most entertaining way to spend your time by playing games. The rules exist to provide this and exceptions to the rules are always welcome by everyone in the spirit of enjoying the games. When a player like you, which has so many games at a high level of quality, interest and entertainment gets into such a rare situation as this one, I think it is imperative for the administrator to provide the means to secure the entertainment of all players involved. Very few players are in this for vain points and ratings. I think that I speak for the vast majority when I say that, in this specific occurrence, Fencer should had suspended the timer globally for a day, so that the entertainment of the players involved in these games would be preserved, rather than giving the excuse of "fairness" for not doing so. If a player had a problem with that, he/she could request the time forfeit specifically for his/her games and be done with it.
I, for one, am really disappointed for winning our game on time like this. Being indifferent is one thing, being in such a situation and requesting an exception is another.

I am not saying it is the end of the world or anything, I just feel that it is unacceptable to miss the spirit of the rules in favor of the letter of them.

ThunderGr: Thank you for your solidarity. It was actually not so funny to loose over 200 games by time out. And as the work here was very intense on a emotional point of view (always need to be in control, to not show weakness infront of 1000 people asking us 5 people in charge (me and some of youth for refugees, presheva) for food, infos and medical assistance was so difficult, that i thought too if i explane, maybe fencer would make an exception for at least 1 day. i decided i just accept that.. and i'm so hell of happy, that i leave this place to recover my emotions at my home country... sorry for sharing all of those private things, i thought it is necessary to proove i'm not telling lies. (ip adress could show that i changed the country) but anyway, i think i'm just totally emotional at the moment and need just to go back.. 1 or 2 days ago (lost the time feeling) we had again the mandate to accompany over 3 thousand refugees coming by feet on rainy days etc. familys little children, it was rainy and the registration camp was overfloghted by rain. people stand in the rain, after walking illegaly through the near borders.... so when police stoped as to reach the camp, cause too many refugees it escalated to a mass panic... i went in the middle trying to calm down the crowd, while my 4 team member tried to help the police, but they just leaved the place (corrupted state)... etc. etc. etc. so sorry for being so emotional, it was maybe a mistake... people here that plays since some years against me maybe now me as some kind of people that is speechless (speachless is written wrongly i know). so i think my time outs are what they are... thx and looking forward to play (the situation with the mass panic and agressions between some of the refugees is on radio television of serbia to see, rts) so again, sorry for my emotions, i'm maybe not anymore in control of my coolness and speechless way :-) thanks for understanding and just forget what i wrote
