Subject: Vacation Days
How do I activate my vacation flag!?!? There doesn't seem to be any way to do this!

thechosen0ne: On the left side of the site there is a column of links.

1) Click "Settings".
2) Click the "Calendar" tab on the top of that page.
3) Check the box near the top of the calendar page. Then go to the bottom and click "save and finish".
4) Check your profile to make sure it worked.

I did check the box that says "Activate automatic vacation", but it doesn't seem to do anything as the time for my games can still go to -2 mins.

There's also the problem of not being able to see how many vacations days I have left. Also how do I postpone my games for a set number of days? Is this feature only available for free members?

thechosen0ne: I just look at my own profile when I need to see how much vacation time I have left.

For you, it has:

Vacation days left: 24 days 22 hours - using the automatic vacation

What happens now is when a game runs out of time, it adds an hour to the game and takes 1 hour at a time away from your vacation time.

coan.net: Does it only add the hour to the game that has timed out? Or does that hour get added to all games where it is your turn?

thechosen0ne: I guess I should have looked at your profile before posting. You have the automatic vacation turned on.

Imagine that you run out of time in a game that does not have a green dot (no vacation time allowed) or a red dot (no vacation time allowed; also no "weekend days" allowed). What happens is that you lose an hour of your vacation time, but all of your non-dot games also gain an hour of time left to play.

Once you run out of vacation time, then the next time you run out of time in a game you lose that game.

happyjuggler0 coan.net: Thanks for clarifying, but it does bring up the question for free members: Does their ability to use vacation days differ from paid members in that they must postpone for a fixed amount of time? How does a free member use their 10 vacation days?

Modified by Aganju (10. March 2013, 04:53:13)
thechosen0ne: the vacation system was changed a while ago, and the whole flag has no meaning anymore.
Everybody's vacation works the same way, and there is nothing you have to do (or could do).
As was explained, whenever the first game runs out, all games get an extra hour, and your vacation time is reduced by an hour. Also you have two 'weekend days' which by default are Sat and Sun, but you can modify them. On those days, you do not use up vacation at all, its free.
If you have enough vacation left, you don't need to do anything, just go in vacation. If you have not enough left, nothing you can do.

The difference for non-paying and paying members is the total amount of vacation you get on Jan/1: Black rooks get 40 days (this means 8 weeks, as only five days a week are needed - see 'weekend' above), and non-paying get (I think) 10 days = 2 weeks. No roll-overs, just everybody gets reset on Jan/1 to his current membership's amount.
I hope that helps you!

Oh, and about the -2 minutes: The timer demon comes around every ten minutes. Until then, the remaining time just keeps counting, so might end up with it showing up to -9 minutes. That does not matter to you, the timer demon applies your vacation (as explained above) before it times you out. It's the same program, so it can't happen the wrong way around.

Thanks! So I guess if non-paying members get the automatic vacation as well, the premium membership details page needs to be updated. Currently it says that only paid members get automatic vacation.

thechosen0ne: Correct.
But it is not the only page that needs updating, and probably not the most important one...
