rabbitoid: 6 & 7 March are weekends. 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 are non-weekends (5 days), 13, 14 are weekends - it ought to time out at 15 March 5.00. Seems that if a game starts on a weekend, the player on the move gets 48 free hours, regardless of the time it starts (which explains the move before March 16, 01:40:57, which is 5d5h + 2*48h after the start time). I'd call that a bug.

BTW, if there would be a setting "no-weeked, vacation days-only", I would have created my tournaments with that setting.

Herlock said it well - "give then one finger, soon they will ask for the whole hand". According to too many improvement requests, the vacation system became so complicated that not even me understood it all times. Simplicity is what we want to achieve.

Subject: Re:
Pedro Martínez: We should start to see his games timing out tomorrow. Currently Gammonator has some 20 games with the lady, all scheduled to time out within a week or so.

One game which is stretching things a bit is Behemoth Chess (angelstar vs. Gammonator) Started yesterday, angelstar to move. It says

start time 6. March 2010, 20:40:57

Time per move (?): 5 days 5 hours, standard vacation (16. March 2010, 01:40:57 is the last term before timeout for this move)

I've never quite understood how a 5-day game can have a timeout set 10 days ahead with only weekend days, and ok, an extra day to compensate potential timezones. Something is wrong there, but that has been around for a long time and will hopefully go away with the next version.

I only care about vacation days when I am stuck playing the same player,,given new vacation days for no rason,,causing me to have 50 or more games and not being able to make a move on them for 6 to 8 months. I like vacation days,,We all have to get away for awhile,,,But if u give them to Anglestar,,then give them freely to all players then. Make it right or fix the mistake. It should be that simple. As far as bugs go, There will always be people who takes the rules of a game to a different level and change things that should not be changed. I will not go as far as cehating, but changing the rules of play for oneself while the rest of us play the way the site is made is unfair, vut its a part of gaming. Even in the old days playing with my sisters, they changed the rules while playing,,,now days,,they crack the code and play

it's classic situation: give then one finger, soon they wil ask for the whole hand ... let's be honest ... we are not going to find a site we can talk, complain and actually talk to the owner ... everybody makes mistakes and Fencer is not immune from them ... but he'd done much more good things than bad for turn based gaming ... I played on many sites and always felt like being no more than my nick ... here I am Andy ... and many of us feel the same. Let's support this site with constructive ideas and make a list of the most important changes we would like to see ...

Gammonator: I personally don't care so much about vacation days, multinicks, new games being introduced, or whatnot, as much as I would like to see the games existing at BK work properly. There are major bugs in the games of Camelot, Cam, Russian Checkers, Backgammon (and variants), Espionage (and variants) and maybe others (these are just from the top of my head), and the removal of these bugs should be, in my opinion, of the highest priority.

How does one get a vacation around here?? I always thought and assumed it had to be paid for.She hasnt paid anything. Her time is up June 10th. She has used her years 35 days vacation already. You say there are workarounds...So work on this workaround. Tell us what this workaround is. I cant work around this. We pay you good money for a fun play site that one can enjoy and have fun and compete and enjoy a casual conversation thru games. But in this temporary workaround you have mentioned. You let people slide on everything here. people who know they are not going to pay for anymore for membership enter a 1000 tnys and play for free for a year. Others pay you 3 and 4 times a year to get more vacation days and you gladly accept the funds. Bud,,,its time to do something about this. Its a badly run operation and it just seems you have too many excuses.

Subject: Re:
Herlock Sholmes: Hmmm. You are right that vacations are making problems, however we cannot remove the whole vacation system only because there are people who don't like it. It is always easier to play games/tournaments with no vacation time control because no global rule can be suitable for everyone, of course.

Anyway, the tournament system is to be rewritten for the new BrainKing version and I am sure that nobody would be able to misuse it any longer. Who would expect that 8 years ago?

My point is that BrainKing is a quite complex system with all major features connected one another, which means that a significant change of one of them would probably affect everything else and it is always a risky decision. That's why everything is being rewritten simultaneously and everything will be released at the same time.

Meanwhile, although I admit that there are users who make problems and continuously try to find out how to complicate BrainKing experience to other users, there is always a good workaround as a temporary solution. It does not mean that we want to leave it as it is forever.

Gammonator: my private 5 cents ... the whole idea of vacations is making problems ... you take vacations to rest, and if you are tired of playing your supposedly favorites games then do not come here ... I still cannot imagine having pleasure playing a game (making a move) once a week .... I proposed once and still believe in it: 30 days should be the absolute limit to play any game ... and look at these tournaments starting date past any common sense ... sorry, if you travel all your life and have no time to make even one move a week, than go and look for some other fun in your life ...

I love entering your trnys. Thanks so much for sharing. I would hate to leave all of those games though, it would be alot of work. She knew she wasnt going to play so she ruins it for the rest of us. To bad management and wonership do not care what the payees of this site really care about...GAMES. But tryth be told,,,alot of us are going to let are membership run out and just play games between ourselves for free, within the year about 50 of us will lose our membership and just play here. He doesnt need those few $1000.00 we pay him here anyway. He wont even miss us.

Gammonator: Angelstar doesn't have auto-vacation set, so her number of vacation days will not decrease. The upshot is, she'll time out earlier.

But a "mass-kick-out-of-all-the-tournaments-you-created" button would be really useful. She's signed up for hundreds of my tournaments. And since it takes 5 mouse actions and 4 page requests to kick her out of a single one, it's just too much work to remove her.

Maybe we need an "auto-withdraw-from-all-signed-up-tournaments-and-stairs" feature. If a person hasn't logged into the site for a month or 6 weeks (or some other period), (s)he'll be removed from any tournament (s)he has signed up for, and which hasn't started yet. And have retirement kick in for any signed up stairs.

There has to be something done with angelstar. She doesnt play here anymmore and SOMEHOW has 34 more days to go for her vacation days.THat is one problem,,she is not due for those days....she ran out already. Next,,,,she has entered every frigging trny there is and has no intention of moving. Which means 5 days per move and 34 vacation days,,,I am stuck for half a year in every game I have her in,,,in every trny that I and many others have entered and the ones yet to come. Surely there is some way of taking her out of the trnys before they start....right??? And what about those vacation days...Please check on this.

Thanks

Gammonator

Subject: Invitation to my chess variants blog ..

Hi Everybody ... I invite you to visit my chess variants blog ... instead of clogging our boards with my uncontrollable urge to create new, useless variants I decided to write about them in a separate place. These variants and games are all my own creations. They just pop-up in my head and I record them. Some may have some value, some probably not. Some may inspire, some won't ... Some are perfectly playable head to head, some require software to manage the board and pieces. I think that creating chess variants is the biggest pleasure I found in my gaming life. Bigger than actualy playing them ... No game is perfect and they constantly change. And I like to play and discover unknown territories. Unknown is what excites me the most. Have fun visiting my blog. Hope many variants will give you unending pleasure to explore this garden of imagination.

After finishing 25 rated games of one kind the provisional BKR changes to "established BKR" and is displayed by normal font (e.g. 1853). If you complete more games, your BKR is more accurate because is based on more results.

hagaren: To be counted as one of those 25 games, a game has to be rated. That means it must last at least 2 moves (not 10). If you play a game that only lasts 1 move, it is still counted under 'My profile'-> 'finished games', so unless you keep your own score of those unrated games, you won't know for sure when you'll reach 25.

36 new members so far today....over half havent logged in,most will never play a game, some go straight to the poker tables.
watch the player list just a couple times a week.
theres no doubt in my mind that the majority of these new members are add ons to existing accts.
since pawns are only allowed 20 games...I can see this as a way to give someone more games,but......theres always those that create these add on accts for ulterior motives, that many of us that have been here awhile know.
then you have these globs that dont care or even read the stuff they're prompted into moderating,to compound issues.
just my 2 cents.
