I think it's important to decide fast, for the other players know where they are and are able to find another team, what is unlikely if these are last-minute changes.

Teema: Re:
ClayNashvilleTn: What I have done is ask all players in the team either in a message or in the FS who really wants to play and are there some who dont mind stepping down to higher rated players. It is only fair to ask them all. Most folks want to play for the fun of it not the high ratings and they should be allowed to stay in if they want to be in it. I have had my feelings hurt by being 'dumped' off a tourney for a higher rated player only because no one approached me about it first. If someone has said hey do you mind stepping aside to let so an so who is 400 pts higher than you then I would have gladly said sure if it gives the team a better chance.

Some felowships sign their best player, an example is Bry's backgammon fellowship as they then have a strong team, whereas others such as the gammon cube, for example, ask for the first 8 to ask to be in the team. I think both of these options are plausable!

Teema: Re:
Andersp: I asked so that I would and could understand the rules.

I will admit that when several others with higher BKR's joined the team later after the first 8 did it made me wonder and think.

I suspect I am not the first person to have those thoughts. If I am I am surprised.

I suspect it has even been done before. I would hope not. I will not either. I have never had a tournament team before and have now learned to be patient and wait until everyone that wants to join, joins.

I made the mistake of running too fast out of excitement but have learned that if you wait, then you watch AD sweat when he as team captain has to decide which 8 plays and who doesn't.

Would you think it would be best in a F/S to just state the first 8 or is it not fair to say, sign up and then we will pick the best 8? Which do you guys do?

You can, i removed someone from a team earlier and replaced them with another, you just unsign the team first! (onyl because that player had'nt been online since march though)

Teema: Backgammon 1 Hour Tournament
I played in a tournament yesterday which the time control was 1 hour, no days off.

It was very quick and good fun. The unfortunate bit was that out of the group of 7 of us 3 didn't turn up to play. Therefore the games were timed out.

But the 3 of us left finished 6 games (two games against each opponent) in about 2 hours.

I have set up my own tournament to start at 1200 this Monday 29th (UK Bank Holiday Monday).

Any of you interested please sign up - http://brainking.com/en/Tournaments?trg=10955&tri=56486&trnst=0

If an event has 13 players sign up at a maximum of 8 per section, it is broken down into 5-4-4 or 7-6?

Teema: Re: Team tourneys
ArtfulDodger: That is correct. But a different 8 player can play in the next backgammon team tournament if you want.

And once a team tournament starts, a player can leave the team and go join a different team for the next team tournament - even if the last one for the other team is still going on.

BIG BAD WOLF: OK, but a fellowship can have even 20 members of a team (listed on the fs page) but only 8 can play. That's what I'm getting at.

Isn't that right?

ArtfulDodger: Once that team tournament starts, the 8 players that start the tournament will have to complete the tournament.

IF a new team tournament is created, then you can pick anyone else (or the same) players from the team to play in the new team tournament.

2216 avg. BKR for our players.

(Of course Bry's Backgammon fellowship will be higher once they enter - he picks the top 8 players in his fellowship, so all those players will be over 2200, with an avg of over 2300 I would guess.)

Yup - one of the players needs to be the captain. You can either make yourself the captain, or someone else on the team.

Then, have the captain go to the team tournament

http://brainking.com/en/TeamTournaments?tri=49&trnst=10

And they should be able to select the 8 players that will play and then you will be signed up.
