Gothic Checkers

Gothic Checkers is one of the newest variation of Checkers with two important differences:
  • Starting position of the pieces. As the following picture shows, the pieces are placed on both dark and light fields of the board:

  • Movement of pieces. A pawn can move (and jump) in five directions - the standard Checkers diagonally-forward moves are extended by horizontally-left, horizontally-right and directly forward moves. When a pawn reaches the last row, it turns to a king that can move (and jump) one space in any direction (left, up-left, up, up-right, right, down-right, down and down-left).
The following picture displays an example of black king capturing four white pawns (before and after the move):

The other rules are the same as for Checkers.
