Czuch: I've already said how I make a "Good Luck & Have Fun! ☺" - I go to my profile, copy and then paste. It's not a top priority for me to do during a game, but like I said - i try to do it since I have found it makes some people happy.
coan.net: Its ironic because you seem to be able to find your key board plenty when it comes to playing on the discussion boards, but when it comes time to play your games, all of a sudden it is buried too deep to make a decent "hello" or "good luck"????
Anyway, I have offered you a nice way to say hello without using your key board, but I wonder if it was merely an excuse, or if you truly care to give any time to a greeting in your games?
Czuch: How is it ironic? When I play games - I play games. When I discuss on the discussion boards, i discuss. I don't like to play games on the discussion board... and I don't like to chat too much during the games.
That is just how I feel. Others can do what they like.
The above link is a great firefox extension that will take care of the problem for most people. who like me and BBW, dont have access to our key boards for one reason or another..... dont let the name fool you, I put in a few different greetings, for example good luck, or congrats great game, I even paste in greetings in different languages, then they are all just one click away from being pasted into any message box!!!!
(the only problem I have is that when I say hello to someone in their native language, I end up having to try and explain that i dont really speak their language!)
Anyway, instead of taking advantage of this "new" option to remove chat options, try this extension instead, like doolittle says, its only a common courtesy!
I think to type good luck/good game etc. is common courtesy. We are all here to play games but I don't take them so seriously that I can't extend a greeting to my opponent. Sometimes a little thing like that can bring a smile to someone's face and it only takes a couple of seconds. Thank you for the time you spent reading this!!
I find it funny how some people just can't have a fun game without someone saying good game, or good luck, or even the short-cut versions of gg / gl. On another site, I even had someone quit our games because I did not say it. (one thing I like about IYT - it automatically puts good luck at the start of the game, and send good game with the finished game message.)
I often try to send a "Good Luck & Have Fun! ☺" message at the start of my games - which I have easily put in my profile so I can quickly find it to copy-paste it. But many times when I play, I stick my keyboard on the floor so I have desktop space for papers and other stuff I work on.... while playing games with my mouse, so typing is something I don't..... I mean this is a game site - a game site is a place to play games, not chat. Chatting is an extra and a lot of people like it - but to be upset with others who actually come to a game site to play games......????? Anyway, this is not directed towards anyone, but thought I would let you know how I feel about the situation.
Czuch: how funny..I was just talking to someone about this...how hard is it to put a GL,or GG on the darned message to the person your playing against..
AbigailII: I personally think that every opponent deserves some sort of hello and thank you.... sometimes I forget, if I get playing too many games too fast, but if I have the option turned off, well, that is just plain rude to me
Czuch: I think my average of in-game messages is about one message a year, if even that. I don't care about in-line chit-chat, I play too many games with a too slow time control for chatting to be relevant.
But if your settings allow for you to not even have a message box, then the answer is clear that you do not wish any congrats or good lucks.....
If I play you and you refuse to offer any greetings or whatever, then I can always put you on enemies list as to not have to play against you, I suppose this si still possible if i come across someone who has no box present, but why make it so hard?
Is there any setting available that allows for us to not become involved in any games with anyone who is not even willing to offer a pleasant 'good luck' or 'congratulations'?
the fact the yesterdays top movers were from Poland, USA, and Germany and the czech republic doesn't come in til 4th says something. Although I havn't noticed that the site's been any faster for me. I just had a lot of time, and played 2 games at once in different tabs on firefox.
ScarletRose: Substantially quicker here, too, in the US Midwest, since about 3-4 days ago. Like many of you, I hesitated to speak up, fearing that it might just be some temporary phenomenon.
Of those of you who have had problems: did any of you make a note of the approximate date when our troubles began? So many of the analyses and helpful suggestions only spoke of computer upgrades, ISPs, geographic locales, browser types...but lost in all of that was the starting date of our problems. I'd have liked to look for a critical clue there...
Antje: it has been faster for me also, but like yourself I was waiting for it to perform at that level over a period of time before breaking out the champagne
the site seems to be working better (faster) the last couple of days.. im almost afraid to mention that in case it changes back again, but some of my opponents (who dont read the boards) have mentioned that as well... i feel like im holding my breath, but i sure do hope it will stay like this, im back to the top (almost) of the list again!! how are the rest of you doing? those that have been plagued by the slow performance, is it better for you all too?
AbigailII: Just delete the email address before posting. It's not mandatory. That's what I do every time I comment (I just wish I had an option to turn it off completely)
Andersp: beside the extra hassle of having to create another account, and going to a different site, there's another reason why people may not want to post a comment at brainking.info: if you post there, your name will link to your email address, something that is hidden from other users at the brainking.com site.
Emne: Re:Hide the problems and pretend they dont exist is a very smart strategy
Jules: I would hardly think that Filip Rachunek could be classed as, or even compared to a "world government"....in fact in the world of business/government he is a very small fish indeed LOL.....
Hrqls: When you have to watch a white screen more than a minute (thats what it takes me now) for each link you click, then you try to avoid too many clicks.
I've asked for a "Blog comments" board but the answer was "NO"....then other topics dont need to disappear on this board.
NaF: Hide the problems and pretend they dont exist is a very smart strategy :)
NOT a floosie: Well, it does keep it off the main page here where prospective members might see it and change their minds about becoming a member.
Its hard to tell for sure, but you make it sound like that is a bad thing?
Wouldnt someone want to know, and have a right to know, before they purchase a membership, that any problems they may have encountered are inherent in the "system of the internet" and are not "fixable", at least from the Brainking end, and they will likely continue into the future?
Thats why there is a free level on this site, to give someone the opportunity to see if they like it here or not, before they buy into it.
Some might think that any perceived "slowness" might be something temporary, when in fact it is likely a permanent side effect of the internet itself.
I think it would be a good idea to even have a few things posted, maybe on FAQs page or the paid membership page, things like what browsers work best with Brainking, which ones dont, that if you live far away from the Czech Rpublic and you use a slow dial up service and you prefer IE then you are likely to experience certain "problems" etc., these are all important notices for any prospective paying member, dont you agree?
there is a link to an article on the blog site on top of this board. you dont have to search for the 3 links in fencer's post
you can post your complaints in here there are other subjects on this board though which might be buried when everytime when someone encounters a slow connection to brainking posts a message about it ... this other subjects deserve some attention as well
when posting it on the blog site it will be summarized, everyone can get a quick overview and its even easier to see how many people have problems with the connection to brainking (those posts wont be buried by other posts on this board)
i hope its clear now that you can post your complaints on here, but its more structured to post it at the blog site, and other subjects on this board might also come in view that way :)
Andersp: Well, the advantage of ranting on the blog is that you can use a different name (someone elses name for instance), and create an account under that name.
In fact, you could create 500 accounts and have 500 people complaining how slow the site is.
Eriisa: Sure...next time a paying member wants to inform the site owner that Brain king is very slow he/she must try to find one of Fencer's three links, then try to register to the blog and then type the post hoping that at least someone shall see it.
Hrqls: i guess I'm just missing something.... it surely seems to me that the best place to post about the site performance would be at the blog entry that is dedicated to the site performance.
A post would not get over-run by other topic posts as happens a lot on these boards.
