Fencer: Maybe a FAQ or a blog entry should be posted about how AutoPass works, and when it doesn't and stuff like that. Seems like there's still too many questions about it.
And while you're at it, maybe extend it to the rest of the games. I'm tired of passing at Ludo and having to go through a series of forced moves at Anti-Chess when the outcome is already obvious...

Emne: Re: The dragon
rod03801: I've tried switching to castle, clicking on any page (to activate the dragon) and then switchingback to simple style. The dragon still appears (since the source code has been created while I had the castle style) and the dragon flew by many many links (I was at the translator tool). They all work... Maybe it's a bug in the browser you're using...

Ifso many people are having problems with it, then I'd assume they're using a personal stylesheet. Apparently, in this case the code for the castle is still being assumed, since I can only see the HTML for the dragon when castly stylesheet is selected. Maybe Fencer forgot to exclude personal stylesheets as well...

Fencer: It's good to see a feature that finally bares no complaints from Opera users, unlike from other browser(s). It works perfectly in Opera

MadMonkey: I think the difference between Knights/Bishops and Rooks in that matter is much more importante than between White and Black Rooks. And yet, they are all packed in the same category.
Most Baclk Rooks have AP's disabled, since they don't want to put up with the adds and/or there's nothing to gain in there for them. I also think it's fair to let Black Rooks enter a competition against as many players as possible - a dozen BlackRooks competing between themselves to win a prize is not nearly as fun as the same competition with over 100 players.

That said, I don't care either way because I have APs switched off

Usually just means Fencer is messing with our patience by upgrading the site when we are trying to do something on the site

Czuch Czuckers: That I don't know. Maybe it has something to do with how your next game is calculated (should it be of the same type and you have no more games of that type, for instance?) or on your default option when submiting a move (if your default is "go to the main page" rather than "goto next game", for instance).
But I'm just guessing now, of course. Better wait for an answer from Fencer if you can't figure it out...

Emne: Re: "play later"
Czuch Czuckers: There is currently one game that I am using the play later option, when I do this I am taken back to my main screen. Then that was your last game. Usually it should take you to the next game on your play list.
Shouldnt that game not pop up again until I have either gone to the main page to click it or until it is the only game left where it is my turn? Like you said, you went to the main page right after clicking the "Play Later" button. So the games on hold were reset at that point.

I was only complaining about it not being persistent for the time frame I wanted. It seems like if I don't access the site for more than 30min, the games I choose to play later are also reset, and they'll show all up again.
But even if it's just a second after, whenever you go by the main page, they're always back, that's how it's supposed to work.

Emne: Re: Play later
Fencer: I see. I figured it had to be something like that. And since I'm not likely to move at least once every 30 min when I'm at work, I'll have to live with that.
But I'm starting to find more and more attractive the idea someone sugested about being able to flag games to (not) move to at the next turn ;) Would certainly be more usefull that many of those "Move and goto..." options that exist right now (and would have probably avoided creating some of them ;))

18. Januar 2007, 17:06:45

Emne: Play later
I usually have my games sorted by "time of last move", descending so that the games most recently played come first. This way I can progress on my games while my opponents are online, making the games faster (and easier to keep them on my mind too).

Whenever a game shows up and I think that I need some more time to think about it, I click the PlayLater button and it doesn't show up again. If in the process I go back to the main page, it's natural the games I decided to play later will come back again.
However, I've noticed that if I take too long playing through my games (usually, when I'm playing from work where I play a couple of games at a time and then go back to work) I noticed that, after some time, the "PlayLater" games come back up again, even if I have some more games that still haven't showed up.

So, what exactly does this button do? Does it just put the games on hold for a while? How long is that while? Could it be configurable? Or is this some sort of bug?

Hieronymus: I Can't see why such a game can't be rated. Two people wanting to play without the stress of a time limit may also want to get a ranking, no?
The way I see it, only if you decide to forfeit such a game because of the other player being inactive, should it be considered as unrated.

Fencer: Well, I posted a comment on the blog but now I see it's also being discussed here. My sugestion was to make it so a Delete button displays after one of the players hasn't logged in for a long time (or, now that I think about it, after a move hasn't been played in a long time).
Deleting the game would forfeit it without affecting any of the players BKR, of course.

If they're both friends that will want to resume the game 2 years later, then they won't use the delete button. If it's a game you're stuck with, you can get out of it without any consequences...

Rose: Close enough. Except that it's not the act of posting that counts but the act of opening the board page. You don't even have to post to be counted as a visitor, just open that page.
So, if someone posts a post just before midnight (server time), and then 100 people go there to read it the next day, it may become one of the most popular boards, even if no messages are posted for that whole day...

Emne: Re: Cloning Gammon exceeds 1000 ongoing games!
BIG BAD WOLF: Actually the totals at the rules page account for finished games. A game must be finished to know if it was won by black or white (or red).

This added to the ongoing is what gives you the "started" games. So Mr. Shumway your request is sort of granted already, just not all on the same place ;)

Emne: Re: Cloning Gammon exceeds 1000 ongoing games!
Mr. Shumway: but started doesn't account for popularity alone. Games that have been here for years will naturally have a larger number of started games than games that were introduced just a few months ago.
Ongoing gives you a more present figure.

Emne: Re: Statistics; Top 50 Players by average game type
tonyh: Count again. count only the ones written in plain font, exclude the ones in italic. They're 38.
Jason has a point: there are games that are either unrated or didn't have the sufficient number of moves to count towards your rating... So having played over 25 games doesn't entitle you automatically to an established rating.

13. December 2006, 13:04:17

Emne: Re: Statistics; Top 50 Players by average game type
tonyh: You have 38 games with an established ranking. Summing all your established BKR's and dividing the sum by 38 gives about the number that shows in that chart as your BKR average. It may be off by a few points because I believe the value is not calculated in runtime, but only from time to time.

To see your name you must select the 1/3 of games option, because you still haven't reached the 46 game types needed to be shown on the default page...

Rose: Just because Fencer is putting everything in automatic doesn't mean the manual method doesn't work anymore ;)
I think there's at least three ways to do it:

* Send someone the 150€ and that person pays 300€ for both black rooks. This implies TRUST
* But two black rooks and simply offer the other the other one the second membership. This one is KIND
* Send a message to Fencer asking the best way to send him the money. When he gets 150€ from both parties he gives them both a Black Rook. This is SAFE... of course, you have to trust Fencer ;)
