srnity: the full extent of your repair cant really be told till the tranny is out and the failed seal is pulled.  if the shaft is bad(excessive wear at the seal surface) then the price of poker just went up.

as far as the seal....if they use a quality seal...not just the' best buy' brand...and its installed properly...then there should be no problem.

you should wonder of course...what caused the seal failure to begin with. if thats not addressed...you could be out another 400.00.

just my 2 cents :o)

Tuesday: they are special air brakes installed on semi's designed to prevent their drivers from running over young tom turkeys....which are referred to as 'Jakes'....hence the term "jake brakes"

Emne: Re:
Stevie: multi-port fuel pressure drops as rpms ncrease, so I could see where you could run into a problem there. its strange the engine manufacturer didnt use a larger injector at the end of the rail to compensate.

Backoff: LOL..it still works
thats a 540 Dart shortblock with Merlin "World" heads, Comp cam, Crane roller lifters and rockers, Dart intake, Holly 1050 cfm Dominator carb...and what ever I could salvage from the old 454 mag Mercruiser engine.
I had to rebuild the Bravo 2 outdrive with beefier gears to handle the higher torque.

Emne: Re:
Stevie: thats really a shame.
at least consider the possibility of debris in the entire oil passages. may be woth it in another 20k. good luck.

Emne: Re:
Stevie: did you buy a long block when you replaced that engine last year? just curious if there was a warranty for the malfunction.

Emne: Re:
tazman7474: at higher temps the viscosity breakdown requires the heaveir oils. efi engines run a heck of alot hotter than naturally aspirated engines, yet OEM specs generlly call for thinner oils. this never made good sense to me. guess 100k is the life span OEM's hope to get, and new car purchases are then called for. They are designed to break down

Emne: Re:
tazman7474: on an average... .003 will give you less break-in wear. but to each their own, huh?
Most of my rebuilds are commercial type.. (most boats run truck motors) with the occasianal high perf...which is almost always GM big blocks.
the foreign motors..ie: Subaru, way well be vastly different.

Emne: Re:
tazman7474: afraid so.
A human hair can be as thick as 10 thousands of an inch thick. most rod and main clearances are 3 thousands of an inch. any more than that, and oil pressure starts to drop.
Running those mustangs...I'm sure you know all about that!! LOL

Emne: Re:
tazman7474: I would hope he has a warranty with that engine. If not...you are absolutly right. The engine oil passages all lead to the oil pan where it can be redistibuted to the crankshaft, main and connecting rod bearings.
At high rpms...a speck of debris is like a file.

Emne: Re: oh well
Stevie: well, with any luck, an exhaust valve wasnt closed. That could well bend a rod...even at lower rpm's.

I have a green Weedeater that just refuses to idle below half speed, and fuel drips from the foam air cleaner.
Any suggestions?
