Click the My Profile link on the left of the page.

Click the Edit link.

There you will see a dropdown menu for "Select your Country".

Select your country, then click Submit.

Hopefully that should give you a flag.

On the main page, over our game list, where we can click on like opponents and it brings up your opponents in A-B-C order.. or click on game and they would would appear in A-B-C order and clicking on something else there at the top would put them in some kind of order as well, right? NOW, when this was first set-up, by clicking on one of these, wasn't this suppose to reflect what game would be played next when you clicked "move and go to next game" after playing your turn on a game?

Niki, this IS an attempt to get over it. Myself and a few others openly apologised and express a desire to return to civilty, which among ourselves we have...to me thats getting over it. I hate to see all the bickering on this board. this is such a wonderful site. however, each person must do what they must do or say --I just want to say re: resigning a game---I am resigning my games because I am going in for cancer surgery next week and I don't want my opponents to have to wait for our games to TIME OUT. so there is one more good reason for a 'resigned' game. I don't have time to put down my REASONS for the resign either and am hoping most of my players will read this or already know about my health and will understand why I am resigning. Please be kind to each other, have fun today because tomorrow some of us may not be able to === I am trying to stay positive and believe that I will be back on site in a few weeks/month, as I said I just want as many ppl on here to know why I am resigning thus I am posting on this board.

JonDownie, this isn't the IYT Ladder Group over at Yahoo. If you must question whether or not people are using the correct board, please do that over at the General Chat Board not on this one. In fact anything not related to games should be posted on the GC board. Just by starting a debate over which board people should be using, and doing it here, don't you realise that you yourself are actually posting off-topic too?

As for whether or not a person should resign, in a hopeless case between 2 serious opponents its probably a good idea. I agree with Dmitri however that between good friends ya do what you feel and even try the silly moves just to hack around, maybe even play with a bit of endgame for practise. Also agree GL is a polite way to begin, even if thats the last thing you mean as far as the eventual outcome of the game goes.

Maybe we can make JD the CEO of the BK board and put a stop to all this injustice. hehe

Why is this just about pente? Dmitri is using pente as an example as its the game he plays most often, but it applies to all games.
Should an opponent resign when they have obviously lost, or carry on to the end?
I personally find it difficult to decide. In games like checkers I've had one king left, and my opponent 4 kings, and I've had a lucky break and gone on to win. So I rarely resign a checkers game now.
But how about backgammon if you have 200 points left and your opponenet less than 50? Its impossible to catch up. but if I resign I feel like I'm taking away that persons 'winning' move, the satisfaction of moving out that last piece.
In situations like that I often ask the person I'm playing if they'd like me to resign.
In chess, I like to play to the end because theres always room for error. I believe theres no right and wrong answer here. I'd like it if my opponenet asked me to resign if I'd obviously lost and not noticed, especially on games I'm not familiar with like pente!
Its really down to the individual what they prefer.
But if someone said to me 'lousy game' I would be highly offended! Even Dmitri offered me a 'gg' when I KNEW I'd played terribly!! It was one of the first games of pente I'd EVER played and didn't really know what I was doing, but he was a gent about my losing miserably!!
Even just say 'thanks for the game' if you feel you can't bring yourself to say 'gg'.. theres never any need for rudeness.

Check TonyH's Original post, called "resignations," that was the post that started the thread, and he did not mention pente. I was just using examples from the game I know best.

jon-- chill! let's not have any more flame-ups on the boards. Relax. Now, this is about game ettiquette in general, not just pente. What is being discussed applies to all games, not just pente, and it applies to the general attitude of players during games. I was using pente as a convenient example, but the issue is applicable to any game.

Please move this to the pente board. This is about the site in general. There is a board for pente issues, thisis not it. Why do you think there is a pente board? why can't this discussion be carried on there??
